Why eIDAS 2.0 concerns all of us

What looks like a European regulation is actually setting the global standard for digital identity — and it forces a strategic choice.

At first glance eIDAS 2.0 looks like just an EU regulation. Its impact is far broader: it sets a de-facto standard for how identity and trust are established in the digital world. The framework requires every member state to offer its citizens an EUDI Wallet — citizens carry identity, diplomas and health documents on their phone and share them selectively.

W3C Verifiable Credentials and SD-JWT are no longer academic concepts but applied, continent-scale requirements. When a standard reaches this scale, it stops being optional for everyone who wants to interoperate with that market.

The strategic choice

As the world moves to this model, a country has two paths: import the transformation from outside, or produce its own sovereign yet compatible infrastructure. The first path means depending on someone else’s roadmap, governance and data policies. The second means building the same standards on your own terms.

Tamga Network chooses the second — compatible yet independent. We deliberately align with eIDAS/EUDI so that when regulation arrives, we are ready; and we keep the infrastructure sovereign so that data and governance stay in-country. Details: eIDAS 2.0 and the EUDI Wallet.
